Karen says:

I have been involved with Macclesfield Speaking Up Speaking Out (SUSO) from the very start (2005), when I began a new role as Cheshire East’s  Self Advocacy Project Coordinator.   4 years later SUSO secured a small amount of money to employ a short-term Development Worker, which was a real opportunity to develop the organisation –  the rest is history…..  Thanks to 3 years funding from the Big Lottery, Macclesfield Speaking Up Speaking Out is a very different organisation today.  We are a registered charity, with refurbished fully disabled accessible premises, a board of trustees, a team of volunteers and some great facilities and equipment.
This means we can offer a low cost, friendly and accessible environment to anybody who wants to come along; and we are even more involved with the community – vital for raising awareness and just lots of fun!
My role is very different now – in some ways much easier with much more help, in other ways much more challenging.  But, I love my job – it is NEVER  boring and it is a privilege getting to know all the fantastic people who come through our doors!

Clare Says:

I have been at SUSOparachute since May 2013. This is my first job working with adults with Learning Disabilities – and I am loving it!  People have been really friendly and welcoming since I started … and they have taught me so much.
My job is to organise the activities here at the Drop-In.  We have already achieved so much.  I love that we have a monthly theme and can look at a range of topics and activities –everybody is really up for trying new things, also, people are not afraid of telling me want they want to do at the drop-in.
I have two highlights since working at Parachute – The first being the Parachute Display Day ‘Celebrating You – Why you’re Great!’ a really positive day celebrating our dropper-inners.  Barnaby was also an amazing Day marching proudly through the streets of Macclesfield.
The volunteers are amazing and I couldn’t do my job without them – they bring their own special skills which enhances the diversity of the drop-in activities.
No two days are the same here at the drop-in – we have great fun, learn different things and make every Parachute moment count.
